Childcare Prices Rise by £930.28 in a Single Year in East of England
Liberal Democrat analysis of the figures in the 2022 Coram Childcare Report and the 2023 Coram Childcare Report show a £930.28 rise for parents paying for 25 hours of childcare a week.
The figures show an average rise of £10.89 a week for children under 2, meaning an annual rise of £566.28 for parents in the East of England.
The figures show an average rise of £17.89 a week for children 2 and over, meaning an annual rise of £930.28 for parents in East of England.
Liberal Democrats said the figures showed the Conservatives are neglecting “cash-strapped young parents” who are seeing their income squeezed even more by the cost of living crisis. The party is calling for significant investment in childcare to ensure every parent has access to quality child care provision without breaking the bank.
Cllr Jade Seager, for Fletton and Stanground Ward said:
“The huge increase in costs of childcare is hitting cash-strapped families in Peterborough who are already facing a cost of living crisis.
“The UK already has some of the highest childcare costs in the world. Parents up and down the country are struggling to afford their nursery fees, while for others the crippling costs of childcare mean they simply can’t afford to return to work.
“The Government needs to address this childcare crisis urgently and invest properly in our children’s future.
“The Liberal Democrats believe parents across the East of England deserve a fair deal with quality childcare provision for all, giving children the best start in life and parents more choice about when to return to work.”
